Start your own trip of a lifetime

A journey starts with a single step - so what is it exactly that gets world travellers out and moving, determined to see the world and experience new cultures? For some, it's a point that they've reached in their lives, fed up with the hassles of a 9 to 5 existence, a little jealous of stories from their friends who may have gone out and perhaps backpacked or worked their way around the world, and wanting to have the same stories and endless files of digital photos. For others, it's the gap year after high school that has somehow spanned over a decade or so, the beginning of a travel addiction that could well last until retirement - professionally, that is, not in terms of hanging up their travelling boots!

Sometimes travel is all part of a day's work, and living between an apartment in London and New York hotels becomes something a little mundane. Let's hope that it's never the case! Still, travelling for work ensures that you're never faced with the same scenery, and you're permitted professionally to live between cultures. While this appeals to many, it's still not everyone's cup of tea.

At other times, it could be the unmistakable allure of a great travel deal. If you stumble across cheap flights to Seville, a buy-one-get-one-free offer on San Francisco hotels, or the chance to accompany a friend on the journey of a lifetime, then what are you waiting for?
